FTS Care

FTS Care Careers

FTS Care are hiring Residential Child Care Workers

We’re looking for dedicated individuals to work in our residential care homes, caring for young people ages 8 to 21 years.

Our aim is to provide a homely, safe and nurturing environment to young people, assuring them of opportunities to achieve, to grow, to feel respected, valued and loved, to experience fun, achievement, educational opportunities and autonomy to make choices. We plan how to achieve this, in a child centred and trauma informed way, and embed the principles of GIRFEC and The Promise. We aim for young people to leave us when they are ready, as confident, responsible, and independent adults and valued members of the community.

If you think you have the skills, knowledge, experience and commitment to work with our young people, to help them to achieve and grow and experience new things, and feel valued, then this is the job for you.

Why Choose FTS Care?

FTS Care are a modern-day employer. We listen to and value our staff. We value the diversity of our staff group and the different skills, experiences, ideas and personalities each of them bring.

We are committed to developing our staff team to give their best to the young people we care for and as such, we offer training, mentoring and development for you to gain skills that will ultimately provide both you and the young people with improved opportunities.

Residential childcare can be challenging and can put your patience, emotional endurance and personal strengths to the test, but even more so, it can bring you a deep sense of fulfilment, reward, and personal achievement, to have made even a small difference in improving the life and future of a young person in care.

If you think you would fit into this dynamic and rewarding working environment, and you have the appropriate skills and qualifications (look these up here) you can apply now with our online application form.

How we deliver our care

We use a Child-Centred Approach in delivering our care to young people. This means that the young person is at the centre of everything we do. It means that we fit our care around the young person’s needs, rather than expecting that young person to fit into ours. We work with that young person, and their family, school, health care practitioners and other agencies, to ensure that all of us work in partnership, to provide the best care and opportunities for that young person.

We also use Outcome Based Care which means we plan positive outcomes with young people that will improve their lives and opportunities. These outcomes are goals that we help the young person to achieve. They can be anything, even small steps. For example, an outcome may be to achieve a qualification, or it might be to stay in school for a day.

Trauma Informed Practice

We understand that young people come from diverse backgrounds and with that, some diverse experiences. Some of those experiences may be negative and we understand that negative experiences such as childhood trauma can affect a young person throughout life. We aim to be there for young people and pick up the pieces when we need to and help the young people to build resilience and new positive experiences.

Learning

We want everyone who works with us to always be aware that every day is a learning experience. We can never have too much knowledge. We can always improve our skills, and we should always reflect on whether we did our best, each day, and with every task.

We consider it a strength to be self-aware, about your own capabilities, strengths and weaknesses, and expect you to step up and tell us, when you need further training and development.

If you work with us, you will undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to keep yourself knowledgeable and up to date. As time goes on and you gain experience, qualifications, and skills, we will ask you to support others in your team, to develop.

Children’s Futures

We want you to help our young people to build their futures. We want them to nurture relationships, live as part of a “family group”, have new experiences, build resilience to negative experience, learn how to manage disappointment, learn how to become independent, gain qualifications, learn how to drive, learn how to thrive, gain employment, be active, respect others and be respected, learn life skills, see a future out-with care, work towards independence, and most of all, be safe.

We want a creative, committed and innovative team to make this happen!

The Promise to Children of Scotland is Our Promise too..

You will grow up loved, safe and respected.
And by 2030, that promise must be kept.

Our Staff

What we need from you

Commitment: We need our staff to be there for the long haul. In some industries, there’s often no impact when staff leave, but working with people is different, especially working with children. When children build relationships with care givers, it impacts on them to lose those relationships due to staff turnover. Many children in care have experienced adults leaving in the past and each time this happens, it can worsen a child’s experience. This is why we try to recruit staff who have chosen childcare as a career and not just a job.

We are committed to recruiting and retaining staff who genuinely want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people.  We seek to employ people who are positive, enthusiastic, and committed to having a positive impact.

Safety

We want your commitment to keep young people safe. This is a fundamental part of our care.

We follow Safer Recruitment processes and when you join us, you will undertake an induction process, and at regular intervals you will be supported, mentored, and supervised by your line manager and that supervision will inform your ongoing professional development.

You will be registered with the SSSC, and you will follow all the following key standards and guidelines, and more, in order to provide the highest standards of care to our young people.

  • Getting it Right for every Child “GIRFEC”
  • The Health and Social Care Standards “My Support, My Life”
  • The Promise (to the Children of Scotland)
  • SSSC Codes of Practice
  • National Guidance for Child Protection Scotland 2021
  • Adult Support & Protection Framework, Scotland

We will train and develop you in Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and you will champion children’s rights, protect them from harm, and were required, advocate for them and help them to build the confidence to one day, advocate from themselves.
